...in books

It's that time again - it's time for Bout of Books!
Bout of Books is a week long read-a-thon hosted by the amazing ladies Amanda and Kelly and it is a chance for us readers to make an effort to minimize the number of books on our TBR pile. It's a time for reading, cheering each other on and just having fun with all the amazing people in the book blogging community.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

My goals for this week of reading madness are the following:
  • try to read at least 100 pages a day
  • read Legend by Marie Lu - my book club book of this month
  • comment more on blogs of other participant
  • try to make it to at least one Twitter chat
  • have fun!
If you want to participate go check out all the details at the Bout of Books website. I can highly recommend joining because it really is a fun filled bookish week.

Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon 2014

April and Kat, the amazing bloggers over at My Shelf Confessions are hosting the 8th edition of the Wicked Wildfire Read-a-thon from today till the 24th of July.

I love a good read-a-thon and I also am currently in the mood for one so I decided to participate when Kat tweeted about it yesterday. I knew that it was coming up but I proved to myself once again that if I don't write stuff down, I will forget it. So thanks for the tweet Kat :)

Here is some information about the read-a-thon:
The  Wicked Wildfire Read-A-Thon is a time when we all get together to dedicate the days of July 14-24 to as much reading as possible. You read as much as you can in order to get yourself a little further through that huge to-read pile! We know real life gets in the way and even if you can’t participate more than one day, you’re welcome to join in on the fun!

In the meanwhile, we will be hosting book-related challenges where you can win some awesome prizes and have a Twitter party at the hashtag #WWReadathon! You can posts updates on your blog, Twitter, Goodreads, Facebook or even YouTube — as long as the profile is public and we all can enjoy your reading progress! Make sure to link to the site where you’ll be sharing your posts/updates with us.

You can sign up here.

Since I'll be tutoring quite a bit these next weeks I tend to get more reading in while my students are writing texts or practising English grammar (when I was at school I always hated it when teacher were looking over my shoulder while I was working so that's why - after discussing this issue with my students - I tend to read rather than stare at their hands). That is also why I will post my daily updates not on the blog but on Twitter, so be sure to follow me there for daily updates. But don't worry if you miss one, there will be a wrap-up on the 25th of July on the blog.

Are you participting in the read-a-thon too? Do you have any plans for books you want to read? As always I'll just wing it and read whatever I'm in the mood for. Is it the 14th already? I cannot wait to start!

Bout of Books 10.0 Wrap-Up

Sadly Bout of Books 10.0 is over and I had a great week. I tried reading a bit more than usually but I had some busy days and I'm not really sure if I managed to read for 2 hours every day but who really cares.

I finished two books
City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Das Superweib by Hera Lind (a well known German adult contemporary book)

and I started a third book (and my first Sarah Dessen book ever)
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

I read 774 pages in total which are 110 pages a day.
My best reading day was Friday (203 pages) and my worst was Wednesday (38 pages).
Unfortunately I didn't make it to any Bout of Books Twitter chat since I missed the first one, was asleep during the second (it was the middle of the night here) and the last one was during my Book Club meeting. That's something to plan better next time :)

Overall Bout of Books was a sucess again and I highly enjoyed this week. The next Bout of Books read-a-thon will be from August 18th to 24th and for more information visit the website.

Bout of Books

Last week was the Bout of Books Read-a-Thon!

Bout of Books is my favorite readathon! There's so much love going around the Blogosphere and on Twitter. You get cheered on and pushed to read more by people but when you don't do that well fellow book lovers are there to listen to your whining too. It feels as if the Bout of Books participants form a strong community for a week. Yes, I know, webook lovers/addicts are a community already but during bout of books it feels closer (at least for me).

Bout of Books Read-a-thons are hosted by the lovely Amanda from On a Book Bender and Kelly from Reading the Paranormal. For all information about Bout of Books visit the Bout of Books blog. I highly recommend participating in the next one!

Last Saturday I posted my goals for the Bout of Books 9.0 but I didn't expect my week getting CRAZY from Wednesday on. My goals were:

  • I want to read at least 1 hour a day.
  • I want to visit more blogs during Bout of Books and comment.
  • I don't want to stress about how many pages I read, etc.
  • I want to enjoy this week of reading, rambling and being surrounded by bookish people.
  • I want to try to participate in at least one Twitter chat.
Unfortunately I missed the first Twitter chat, the second one was in the middle of the night for me and during the last one I was at a friend's birthday party. So I didn't participate in a Twitter chat which I'm really sad about because they are always so much fun. As I told you so in this post, my semester at university ends at the end of January and I finally got all my exam dates and organized my study time this week and now I am crazy busy and only have limited time to read, blog, tweet, which annoys me tremendously. I hate not being able to chat with my friends and other fellow book lovers. That's also why I wasn't able to reach allmy goals. I didn't even manage to read for at least 1 hour each day but the time I spent reading I enjoyed and I would still call the readathon a sucess since I finished 2 book, started 2 more and put 1 bok aside for a later date.

Here are my stats for the Bout of Books 9.0 readathon:

Number of pages I've read:  696 pages

Books I finished:

Breakfast at Darcy's by Ali McNamara

The Strange Case of Finley Jayne by Kady Cross

Books I started:

15734329
111 Reasons to love London by Gerhard Elfers

The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson
(which I put aside to read at a later date, I liked it but it didn't feel right at the moment)

I enjoyed the Bout of Books 9.0 readathon and I will defintely participate in the next one which will be from May 12th till May 18th 2014 and a HUGE thank you to Amanda and Kelly for organizing it!

Bout of Books
It's time for a Bout of Books Read-a-Thon!

From January 6th to January 12th there will be another Bout of Books Read-a-thon hosted by the lovely Amanda from On a Book Bender and Kelly from Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 6th and runs through Sunday, January 12th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 9.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. There's still enough time for you to sign up and if you want to, you can check the schedule here.

Today it's time to write down my goals for this read-a-thon. Unfortunatly my life (work, uni, studying, etc.) will start again onTuesday (with an exam - how great is that?) so I cannot devote as much time to reading as I would like but I will still try to focus my attention to reading in my spare time.

My Goals

  • I want to read at least 1 hour a day.
  • I want to visit more blogs during Bout of Books and comment.
  • I don't want to stress about how many pages I read, etc.
  • I want to enjoy this week of reading, rambling and being surrounded by bookish people.
  • I want to try to participate in at least one Twitter chat.
As you might know by now, I hate (yes, hate) having to come up with specific books I will read during the read-a-thon and I'm glad that there's no need for me to write them down beforehand. So I will choose them during the week, depending on if I manage to finish the book I'm reading now before Monday, my mood and how much time I'll spend on public transport (the decision between Hardback or Paperback).

...Blogmas

Day 7

Welcome to Blogmas!
Every day from December first til Christmas Eve I will post one Christmas related post, giving you gift ideas, tips, recipes, etc. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

End of Year Readathon
http://danasquare.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/end-of-year-2013-readingcram-sign-up.html

The lovely bloggers Juliababyjen's Reading Room and Dana Sqaure are hosting the End of Year Readthon from Monday on till the 22nd of December. Here's the introduction post where you can also link your sign-up posts.

This is the best idea for all of us readers who want to:
  • make a dent in our TBR pile before all the books we get as Christmas presents need shelf space.
  • read some books before we cash all our book voucers we get for Christmas so we can enjoy the shopping spree without a guilty conscience.
  • reach our Goodreads reading challenge goals. Mine was reading 60 books but now I'm just short of reading 100 books and feel the need to reach this milestone.
  • spend some time during the sometimes hectic Christmas season relaxing with a good book.
  • have fun participating in a readathon.
As you may already know if you read my blog for a while now, I am a mood reader and I just seem to cannot stick to lists of books I really want to read for a readathon. That's why I'm not putting up a list of books I really really want to read. I will just try to read as much as possible between work, university and all this Christmas madness (which I truly enjoy every year) and will keep you posted how I'm doing on Twitter.

Do you have a HUGE pile of unread books?
Do you want to participate in a low-key readathon where you try to downsize your TBR mountain?
Hosted by Colorimetry and Tressa’s Wishful Endings the #TackleTBR is perfect for you!

My Goals:
  • as always I don't set myself a list of books I want to read
  • I want to read at least one hour each day
  • I want to try to finish 3 books - I'm setting myself quite a low goal so that I don't keep myself from studying (yes, I take every opportunity not to study)
  • I want to interact with the other participants
  • I will have fun!

Sadly Bout of Books is over :(

My Stats:
  • I finished 3 books
    • The Heist by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg
    • The Amulet of Samarkand by
    • Austenland by Shannon Hale
  • Thursday was my best reading day with 285 pages.
  • Overall I read 943 pages.
Overall I had a good read-a-thon. It was a really busy week at work and I usually fell into bed the minute I came home so I am really impressed that I managed to read almost 950 pages.
The next Bout of Books read-a-thon will be from January 6th to January 12th, 2014!

Finally it's time again for a Bout of Books Read-a-Thon!

From Monday August 19th to Sunday August 25th there will be another Bout of Books Read-a-thon hosted by the lovely Amanda from On a Book Bender and Kelly from Reading the Paranormal. I am not sure how many books I'll be able to read because during this week I'm not only teaching for 8 hours (Monday-Friday), should finally start studying but I will also be away from Friday to Sunday. I will be in Amsterdam meeting four other wonderful book blogger and I am pretty sure we'll spend all our time together talking, laughing, book shopping but not reading. If you are in Amsterdam over the weekend, don't forget to join us for the Book Blogger Picnic. I will however have some time to kill at the airport and on the plane so hopefully I'll get some reading done. I currently am only one book away from completing my Goodreads Challenge of reading 60 books this year.

    My Goals
    • I want to complete my Goodreads Challenge, which means I want to finish at least one book.
    • I want to try to read at least 1 hour a day.
    • I don't want to stress about this read-a-thon. I always enjoy it and it's great fun but if I am not able to meet my goals that's fine too.
    • I want to enjoy this week of reading, rambling and being surrounded by bookish people.
As you might know by now, I hate (yes, hate) having to come up with specific books I will read during the read-a-thon and I'm glad that there's no need for me to write them down beforehand. So I will choose them during the week, depending on my mood.

Finally it's time again for a Bout of Books Read-a-Thon!

I love the Bout of Books read-a-thon and been participating in it many times now. August read-a-thons are usually not the best for me because during this month I work like crazy. In Austria schools have holidays in July and August and at the beginning of September those kids that failed
one or two subjects get a chance to take an exam in this subject(s) to get a chance to not miss a whole year of high school. Our students can't just fail one course. If they do they have to take the whole year again. The last three weeks of August I work like crazy teaching 4 kids all the things they are not able to do in English in a limited amount of time. Yes, sometimes I feel like Don Quixote fighting against windmills. :)

This year I will also be in Amsterdam for a Blogger Picnic me and four other lovely book bloggers organized so I won't be able to participate the whole week but I'll do my best to read as much as possble during that week.

As always I won't make a list of books I will be reading but will be reading according to my mood.

Will you participate in the Bout of Books read-a-thon too?

I will be joining the Summer Lovin' Read-a-thon!

The Summer Lovin’ Readathon is a week-long readathon event hosted by seven independent bloggers! (Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland)

There will be daily challenges for awesome prizes and opportunities to get points toward the Grand Prize Packs. As if that weren’t enough – the week will end with a 24-hr marathon readathon! Twitter parties, mini-challenges, games, prizes given EVERY HOUR, and more chances to get points toward the Grand Prize Packs. Sign-ups will be open through July 6th.

As always with Read-a-thons I don't have a list of books I plan to read because I am a mood reader but I will update this page with my daily progress. You can chat about your progress on Twitter all week long using the hashtag #SummerLovin13.

Are you one of those poor people too who are not attending Book Expo America and who has to live vicariously through Tweets from your bookish friends attending?

    Here's the solution:
Inky, the mastermind of Book Haven Extraordinaire, decided to host an Anti-BEA-Reathon from today to the 2nd of June. If we cannot be part of all the fun happening at BEA we can at least be part of a wonderful group reading like crazy and having the time of our life on Twitter using the hashtag: #AntiBEAReadathon
I am looking forward to all the fun on Twitter and on doing some damage to my huge TBR-pile.

Do you plan to join? If so pop me a quick line so that we can chat and cheer each other on.

    ...in books

Sadly Bout of Books is over now :(

To be honest; this Bout of Books read-a-thon wasn't the most sucessful for me but I managed to not only stick to reading at least an hour but I also kept my priorities in order and studied quite a lot daily. I usually have huge problems see studying as more important than reading but this week I finally managed and this feels like a HUGE accomplishment.

    My Stats:
    • I read at least an hour a day even on days when I was super busy.
    • I finished 2 books (yeah!) - The Sweetest Thing by Jill Shalvis and Cinder by Marissa Meyer
    • Thursday (the day of my exam) was my slowest reading day because I did a lot of last-minute studying and on my way home after exam I met a friend on the tram and chose talking to him over reading my book.
    • Sunday was my best reading day with 241 pages. I alternated my day between reading and studying (not in that order).
    • Overall I read 3 books:
      • The Sweetest Thing by Jill Shalvis
      • Cinder by Marissa Meyer
      • Educating Jack by Jack Sheffield
    • Overall I read 813 pages. Now I'm impressed - I thought it would be a lot less.
The next Bout of Books read-a-thon will be from August 19th to 25th

Today it's time to write down my goals for this read-a-thon.During the Read-a-Thon week I have one exam on Thursday and need to study for another on next Saturday. So I need to divide my time between studying and reading. On Monday I will be at the David Garrett concert in Vienna with one of my boys, a.k.a one of my best friends, have an exam on Thursday, a party on Friday and will go watch the new Star Trek film with my bestie on Staurday. So I'll keep my goals pretty low and see if I can achieve them.

Is your TBR-pile higher than Mount Everest?

Do you have so many unread books that you already feel guilty?

Do you want to spend a week discovering new blogs, talking to like-minded and enjoying as much time as possible with your books (reading them of course)?

Then join the Bout of Books Readathon!

    Bout of Books

You don't know what the Bout of Books Readathon is?

    I can help you:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 7.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

I already cleared my schedule from all the "unnecessary" things like work and meeting friends and am looking forward to splitting my time during this week between studying (which unfortunately I couldn't get rid off) and reading- and tweeting-time with all my fellow bout of books readathon reader friends (what a wonderful word).

Bout of Books is always a wonderful experience and it feels so good dedicating a week to all some of the books you always wanted to read or go on a series binge read. I hope you'll join the fun and for more information visit the Bout of Books blog.

    It's time for the Wicked Valentine's Read-A-Thon!

From today until the 14th of February April at My Shelf Confessions is hosting this wonderful event. For more information and to sign up click here.

    My goals:
    • I want to spend more time reading than usual
    • I want to write all the reviews that need to be done (not really a read-a-thon goal but a MUST)
    • I want to browse blogs, comment and spread the love
    • I would like to join a Twitter chat (if I'm not working)
    • I want to have a lot of fun
Are you participating in the Wicked Valentine's Read-A-Thon too?

Bout of Books Read-a-thon: Wrap Up

I participated in the Bout of Books read-a-thon all during last week and really enjoyed it. Unfortunatly, due to the fact that I spent a lot of time at work or on the commute I couldn't participate in the Twitter chats and I also didn't tweet and comment as much as I would have liked. Hopefully I will be able to do this more during the next read-a-thon.

I did manage to read more than I normally would during this week; which means that there is now a huge pile of books I need want to review. Hopefully I can catch up on them soon because my next three weeks will be super busy and hectic (thanks to end of term exams).

Here are some numbers for you:
    • I finished 3 books and started 1 more
    • I read 936 pages in one week
    • I managed to read 244 pages on Saturday (where I had to work too) which were the most I managed in a day
    • On Monday I only read 76 pages which were the least I managed in a day
    • Half the books I finished in 2013 I read during the read-a-thon

I will definitely participate in the next Bout of Books read-a-thon too.

Thank you Amanda  and Kelly for organizing it and being awesome hosts.
