...in books

Welcome!
Today is the beginning of my Blogoversary week here on "My Life..." where I will be celebrating my second year of blogging with the help of some amazing friends.
Don't forget to enter my giveaway at the end of this post!

Today's post is brought to you by the lovely Debby from Snuggly Oranges:

Hi everyone! And thank you Karin, for asking me to do a guest post! It's my first time guest posting, actually, so I was a bit at a loss at what would be a good idea. But then Karin happily provided a topic for me. You see, I don't know when exactly it started, but somewhere along the way this year, "Debby Books™" became a thing. The term, coined by Judith from Paper Riot, refers to my favorite books, which due to my keyboard smash-like gushing reviews become irresistible to my friends to pick up. Apparently, I provide good book recommendations.

I mean, I do have flawless taste. And modesty. *nods*

But hey, we're all book nerds here, and who couldn't use a few more suggestions of books to read? Here are just a few of the Debby Books™. For a complete list, you can always check my blog's About Me page or my Goodreads shelf!

Contemporary Picks

Adorkable: This is one of my all-time favorite, favorite book. Great rec for bloggers and lovers of love-hate relationships.
The DUFF: Really all of Kody Keplinger's books are Debby Books, but this one is my favorite. Great story of self-esteem and another great love-hate relationship.
Golden: The best way to describe this book is that it's a book that reminds you why you love reading. The writing is just so beautiful.
This Song Will Save Your Life: This is a must read for anyone who was bullied, teased, and/or excluded in high school. A great story about finding your own place in the world.

Fantasy Picks

Throne of Glass: This is one epic fantasy. Celaena is an awesome kick-ass main character, and she's an assassin. And then there's action and epic romance.
Stormdancer: For lovers of Asian-inspired things, this is a must read. An awesome and creative combination of fantasy, steampunk, dystopia, and mythology. All around epic.
The Burning Sky: If you're a world building fanatic, this may not be the pick for you, but this has one of the best romances in fantasy ever between two awesome characters. Genderbending shenanigans!
Shadow and Bone: I love the creative Russian setting here, and the magic part of it was pretty darn awesome as well. Even though I still have to read the sequel myself.

Science Fiction Picks

Cinder: Cinderella is a cyborg in this fairytale retelling. It's also a dystopia and the worldbuilding is just wonderful, taking place in New Beijing, where a plague has broken out.
All Our Yesterdays: The time travel lover in me can't help but praise the hell out of this book. It's just epic. A definite page turner, with twists that will have you gasping and left me crying.
Pivot Point: Maybe not so much sci-fi, but the parallel universes make it qualify. This story reads much like a contemporary though, with top-notch character development and romance. Then there's the ending...
Obsidian: Perhaps more paranormal than sci-fi, but hey, aliens! This is a guilty pleasure series, and yes the first book has similarities to Twilight, but imo it's Twilight done right. Love-hate romance and chemistry at its best.

Paranormal (Romance) Picks

Angelfall: This dystopian post-apocalyptic story makes angels the coolest freaking paranormal creatures out there. An epic and dark adventure, with great slow-burn romance.
Everneath: I'm a total lover of Greek mythology, so this retelling of the Hades/Persephone myth is great. Brodi Ashton is the queen of cliffhangers (seriously) and the suspense she builds is epic.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone: Laini Taylor's writing is amazing, the romance was great, the word building was awesome. It's one of the most creative books I've ever read.
Unearthly: I like angels, okay? I hate that they are hated on because of Fallen and Hush, Hush. I've only had great experiences. Unearthly has a love triangle done right, and it's just a beautiful story.

Anyway, that's it for now. I think that's enough new material for your to-read list, right? If you do check out some Debby Books™, let me know what you think! Thank you so much for letting me do this, Karin! It was a ton of fun! And happy, happy blogoversary! Here's to many more!

  1. Oh, I would LOVE The Burning Sky! I hear it's amazing! Debby has good taste, because I think that might be the only book up there I don't have. Haha! I particularly love Cinder and All Our Yesterdays. :)

    Happy blogoversary, Karin! :)

I love that Debby Books are a thing now ;) I love so many of the books mentioned above, we definitely have a similar taste :)
I'm thinking I'd pick Second Chance Summer, because I hear it's heartbreaking! Or maybe The Burning Sky or Golden because I loved them so much and want a shiny finished copy...

Hm, that's hard because I already read a few of the coolest of these books (Cinder, Everneath). I'd pick Shadow and Bone because everyone has been raving about this one for ages (:
