Frostbite
by Richelle Mead

You might want to read Vampire Academy first

First sentences:
Things die. But they don't always stay dead. Believe me, I know.

Summary:
Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose...
It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.
But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...

My opinion:
Frostbite is the second book in the Vampire Academy series and starts basically where the first book ended. Dimitri and Rose continue their training but one day they discover a massive Strigoi attack at a house near the school. This alarms the whole school and all students are taken on a mandatory ski trip to Idaho.

The second book in the series takes us on a skiing trip with St. Vladimir Academy but being a vampire academy means that this trip is not as we imagine it. Not only are many parents, including Rose's mother and an old friend of her tutor and love-interest Dimitri, also at the skiing resort but the whole community is furious about the recent gruesome attack. While everybody tries to continue living their life as normal as possible some students plan to strike against the Strigoi and Rose has to intervene.

Frostbite is an absolute page-turner with many twists and an ending that took me by surprise. Rose and Christian are forced to work together, another guardian flirts with Dimitri, which annoys Rose tremendously, and we get introduced to Adrian who tries hard to wake Rose's interest and release her inner bad girl.

Due to the fact that this book is almost solely set at the ski resort in Idaho, the story gets an enclosed setting and all the emotions are really strong due to the fact that all the members of the group are living in a closed space for quite some time. The well-known cabin fewer and all the characters are perfectly portrait.

With Frostbite Richelle Mead wrote a stunning second novel and I cannot wait to see what will happen in the third.
