If you click on the image of the Snowmen it will take you to the Handimania blog post. If you decide to make them, I would love to see a picture (you can tweet them to me).

Day 1

Welcome to Blogmas!
Every day from December the first until Christmas Eve I will accompany with one Christmas related post, giving you gift ideas, tips, recipes, etc. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy Coming up with posts and writing them.

Today, I will show you how to make a Bookish Advent Calendar

Since I was little every year my mum made me the most amazing Advent Calendar; 24 packages with small goodies. One I remember really well from when I was younger were 24 Christmas trees with presents hidden behind them.

Those Calendars made the time waiting for Christmas Eve to finally arrive really fun and wonderful.

My mum is as much a reader as I am so in 2009 I had the perfect idea for an Advent Calendar for her. I am a huge fan of first sentences in books and always paid them extra attention. If it doesn’t grip me I tend to put the book back down. I started making my mum an Advent Calendar made out of first sentences from books either she or I have and it was an instant hit!

Today I want to tell you how to make this Bookish Advent Calendar for an avid reader.

What you need:

Get your books and look for awesome, interesting, funny first sentences.

Take a card, write the sentence on it, put it into an envelope and don’t forget to put a day on it.
I usually write a list of the first sentences I liked and put them in the order I want before writing them on the cards. I also make a master-list to match book title and the day my mum will find it in her Advent Calendar. So I always know which book she is looking for and can help her if she needs it (which she usually doesn’t).

After writing all the sentences on cards, take some Christmas decorations, clips and ribbons to put the calendar on display somewhere in the apartment.

Now it’s time to get creative yourself and don’t forget: we are never too old to love an Advent Calendar.
